Walking hitting dragging singing walking holding
2017

three screen video installation, duration variable
site responsive to Odda Smelteverk, Hardanger, Norway

The spectre of a lonely singular worker wanders through the relics and the ruins of post industrial Odda. Across six locations and in traditional three screen video set up, a figure in orange wanders through monumental post-industrial cathedral like scenes. Each action is one of repetition, of not knowing, of futility, of resonance. The wanderer is searching for purpose, searching for presence, searching for something altogether unknown. The scenes in which he walks through are reminiscent of the post-apocalyptic, of the after-the-event. His voice haunts and echoes throughout the bowels of the machinic beast as he sings two notes repetitively, a tool is dragged up and down a vast empty factory hanger, large chemical drums are struck one after the other, the plastic boiler suit rustles as the figure walks back and forward with increasing haste and frustration. The overall atmosphere is one of timeless discontent, of hopeless abandon.
